Safe as a Mother's Hand

By Kayla Newling

No matter what you are going through, a mother's hand has a way of healing what hurts. Whether it is sickness, heartache, or turmoil — there is something about a mother's presence that makes even the hardest things a little more bearable. A cool hand on a fevered brow. A warm embrace around a weary soul.

"As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem."Isaiah 66:13

There are moments in life when all our pretense fades away — when we are left with the raw, unguarded reality of who we are. In those moments, no matter our age, something deep within us reaches out for the hands that first brought us into the world. It is instinct. It is need. It is one of the most honest things about us.

God understands that need. In fact, He uses it to describe the kind of comfort He offers us.

When life wears us down — when uncertainty closes in, when fear whispers that we are alone, when we are at that frail, quiet edge of giving up — the Lord's hand is always there. He never sleeps. He never steps away. He watches over us, clears the path before us, and holds us even when we have stopped holding on.

The whole world can be falling apart around us, and we are still safe in His hands. The very hands that gave us life and life more abundantly are the same hands that heal, comfort, and carry us through.

May you cry out to the Lord today for the comfort you need most —
just as a child cries out for his mother.
